It may be helpful to know that the Designer is also the Model. Birgitte is 5'9" and about 135 lbs. She wears the KillaKnit size of Medium. If a particular product only shows S/M and M/L, she wears M/L

Knits are naturally stretchy compared to woven fabrics. In addition, HANDknits are nothing like the 'ordinary' knits you find in department stores. 'KillaKnits' knits have a much greater stretchability and often can fit 3 instead of 2 sizes on the KillaKnit's Standard Size Chart.   The sizes overlap and when deciding on the right size for you, please consider how loose or snug you want the garment to fit you. Also consider the model's size. Birgitte's waist usually fits the standard department clothing size 6. She needs size 8 or 10 for shoulders and sleeves. She does not wear size Small KillaKnits. They would be just a little too snug, and too short in the sleeves as well. All of the handknits modeled by her are at least a M or a M/L. With oher words; she selects her size to fit her shoulders first. 

According to KillaKnits' Standard Sizes Birgitte uses the following Chart:

XS: size 0-2

S: size 2-4-6

M: size 6-8-10

L: sizes 10-12

S/M: 2-4-6

M/L: 8-10-12
